  1. A signal preconditioning is a set of simple preconditioning steps that apply to signals.
  2. Since signals are functions of time, it is often convenient to use a non-dimensional time, τ, defined as τ = (t - ti) / T, where t is the actual time, ti the initial time, and T the time normalization factor. Default values: ti = 0 and T = 1.0.
  3. Once the time axis has been normalized, a portion of the time history can be extracted, focusing on non-dimensional times τ such that τi≤ τ ≤ τf.
  4. For signals, the time axis will be labeled as TIME [sec] and will be in units of seconds. Since the time axis can be rescaled, this label might no longer adequate for the new time axis. For instance, consider the case of a crank rotating at a constant angular velocity; it might be preferable to use the crank angle as the time axis, and define timeLabel = CRANK ANGLE [deg].
  5. Finally, it is possible to scale the signal by a scaling factor, fs, s* (t) = fs s (t), where s* (t) is the scaled signal, and s (t) the original signal.
  6. It is possible to attach comments to the definition of the object; these comments have no effect on its definition.
